Date please, CdV of young man, McAllan of Hexham

I'd welcome your thoughts please on this CdV of a very suave looking young man.

I thought perhaps late 1860 - early 1870?

Somewhat indirect but:

BNA has the Hexham Courant from 1864-1897. The first advertisement for T H McAllan, music seller, appears in 1877.  It refers to a large stock of photographic albums, but not to photography.

There are adverts throughout 1879 referring to "Portrait Rooms Open Daily". Also refer to having been established 18 years.

Then there is a long gap until 1889 when there are adverts throughout, but these don't refer to the Portrait Rooms.

Thanks Gadget  :)

Alan, thank you. I should have said that I’ve got quite a lot of biographical information about Thomas McAllan. I think his photographic career became a little subordinate to his career as a seller of music and musical instruments in later years but he was definitely working as a photographer in Hexham from about 1860 until shortly before his death in 1904.

Hi again Alan,

I just remembered that I checked out the BNA coverage of the Courant some time ago, and in fact (and very frustratingly) they only have it for the years 1864, 1877, 1879, 1889, and 1897.

Oh yes I will  ;D

The back of this carte looks like a prototype for the rather more sophisticated one used here

I was, however, fortunate enough to find a nice little article about him in the 1864 edition, so that was a bonus.
