Looking for parents of Joseph & Ann STANNARD
« on: Thursday 10 March 22 06:18 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,

I'm looking for the parents of a married couple: Joseph STANNARD born abt 1810 in Badingham, and Ann BURROWS born abt 1812 in Bawdsey. I have all of their censuses records, children's baptisms, etc, so now just looking to push a generation further back.

I suspect that Joseph may be the son of Joseph STANNARD and Sarah WILKINSON, based on the name of one of his own children and that couple also baptising children in Badingham in the right time period.

As for Ann (who may have also gone by Mary Ann?), the only clue I have is the 1851 census where her birthplace is recorded as Bawdsey.

A bonus would be their marriage! Likely to be 1832 or earlier, probably in Badingham. First child, Rebecca, baptised 7 Oct 1832 in Badingham.

Thanks so much!

Sarah

Hi Sarah,

This is a start,

Joseph Stannard - m - Ann Burrows 8-6-1831 Badingham, Suffolk
source; Suffolk Marriages CD (1813-1837) from the Suffolk FHS.

Not having much luck re-baptisms as they could be older than you suggest.
Will have another look.

Thanks, Alan - that is a good start!

Joseph is pretty consistent in recording his birth across the censuses, it's always 1810/1811 in Badingham.

Hi Sarah,

The nearest "Burrows" baptism I can  find is;

Hannah Burrows d/o Robert & Mary (late Clarke) in Badingham St.John the Baptist.
+ 3 others (same parents as above);
9-5-1802     Samuel
12-5-1805   Sarah
13-12-1801 William

So far as Joseph Standard is concerned, I have found two;
12-5-1811 (bn; 5-2) Joseph Standard s/o Joseph & Sarah (late Wilkinson) in Badingham

and

6-9-1809 Joseph Standard s/o John & Susanna (late Spurling), Hostler, Woodbridge St.Mary

Thanks again, Alan. I think my Joseph must be the one baptised in 1811 to Joseph & Sarah (Wilkinson) Stannard as expected.

Ann/Mary Ann Burrows was said to be from Bawdsey, not Badingham - does the Suffolk baptism CD include that parish/surrounds? Someone on FamilySearch has put her birth date in as 8 June 1813, so that may be a clue?

Hi Sarah,

The CD of baptisms I have from the Suffolk FHS is for the Deaneries of Carlford & Wilford which includes the parish of Bawdsey.

The only Mary Ann Burrows I can find that's likely to fit is;
25-2-1816 Mary Ann d/o Mary Burrows Bawdsey.

There are certainly a lot of "Burrows/Burroughs" in Suffolk but nowhere can I find an entry for 8-6-1813.  I have seen the entries on Ancestry family trees  but none are showing any sources.

Thanks, Alan.

Just looking at my data again, it's probably that someone has misunderstood the marriage date (8 June 1831) as Ann's birth date on FamilySearch (8 June 1813).

I'm curious about that entry for Mary Ann baptised to Mary Burrows in 1816. I wonder if Ann's marriage to Joseph had any Burrows witnesses...

A William Burrows married Mary Flower 9/5/1799 Bawdsey - children baptised in Bawdsey were George 1799, Hannah 1801, William 1808, Robert 1816, Emma 1819 and Henry 1823.   However, 2 children were baptised at Alderton (just a mile away) to a William and Mary i.e. an Ann and a William both baptised 23/2/1814.   I think that these 2 were children of the same couple - born between 1809 and 1814 and don't think they were twins, just baptised together, and by 1816 family back in Bawdsey.

I would say that Ann bp.23/2/1814 Alderton is 'your' Ann (bc.1812-1813).   No other children baptised in Alderton to a William and Mary before/after 1814 hence my belief that William and Mary are the Bawdsey couple.
