Commonwealth War Graves Commission are appealing for relatives of Able Seaman John William Sommers - Service No:- J/44808 - died 8/7/1919 Oystermouth Cemetery.

The Commission are in the process of producing a headstone to mark his grave.

Died in Neath in 1919 after being medically discharged on 5 Feb 1919, due to 'Tuberculosis'
Born on 22 April 1900 at Llandrindod, Radnor,
Signed on for 12 years on 22 April 1915 (his birthday) as 'Boy II',
Before signing on, John William was a 'Gardeners Assistant'
He joined his first ship on 2 Oct 1915, HMS Impregnable as 'Boy I',

Mumbles War Memorial

Parents John & Harriet, married in America. John was a Carter, born in New York USA and Harriet was born at Presteigne, Radnorshire. They moved to Blackpill from Llandrindod around 1902/03.

In 1911 the census places the family in Blackpill at 4 Mill Lane, where his father was now a Colliery Banker, and William, the oldest of four sons and two daughters.

The children's ages in 1919  John William 19, Henry 18, Robert 17, Doris 16, Thomas 14, Marie 13

Possible 3 births Sommers/Howcroft  - 1933 - 1935 -  William J Sommers -  27 Feb 1938

marriage 1963 Brecknock.

Mr William John Sommers - 27 February 1938 - 19 August 2015  (aged 77 years)
Last Residence Brecon, Powys, Wales   Ld3

There is a male birth at Brecknock in 1972  (a possible at Hereford  1969 ?)
