James Ingledew
« on: Wednesday 23 March 22 03:44 GMT (UK) »
I'm trying to find a death record for James Ingledew, my gggrandfather. He was baptised 6 Jan 1824 in Middleton St George and married Mary Ann Harthwaite on23 Nov 1844 at the church of Middleton St George. Three years later, 8 Nov 1847, Mary Ann Ingledew married Thomas Richmond and she is shown as a widow on the marriage certificate.
I am therefore assuming that James Ingledew died between Nov 1844 and Nov 1847, when he would have been aged around 20/23yrs, but I can't find a record anywhere. I've tried the civil registers, parish registers, burial records and would be grateful if someone could suggest another avenue for research or a reason the record may not exist?
I live in Australia so a visit to the area is a while away.

Welcome to RootsChat.

There is a death registration - December quarter 1846, Thirsk Registration District - for James Ingledew.  GRO confirms his age as 56.  So possibly not your James.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
Remember - "They'll be found when they want to be found" !!!
If you don't ask the question, you won't get an answer.

Not that it helps at all but Middleton St George is near Darlington in Durham, not North Yorkshire, just to save searching in the wrong place.

A tree on Ancestry shows he named Thomas Chambers as his father on his marriage cert.  His mother is shown as Elizabeth Ingledew

I have distant Ingledew relatives in my family and it can be spelt in a number of ways, Engledew and Ingledue are a couple of alternatives to look out for

Than'k you. Yes, I'd found him, but unless the age is wrong he can't be 'my' James. I think I need to buy the death certificate though, just to make sure.

Thank you for all replies. My records agree with his parents being Thomas Chambers and Elizabeth Ingledew, and I've tried every spelling variation I can think of. I wondered if there could be any reason his death would not have been registered.
