WW1 Records sought..
« on: Thursday 24 March 22 08:01 GMT (UK) »
Hi there,
I’m desperately hoping someone can assist with obtaining the service records of my Great Grandfather Walter Daubney which I’ve mislaid!!.. They are needed for a publication which goes to press next month.
Walter was born on 25 August 1888 in Lincoln and was in the trenches in arras during WW1 beside his brother Frederick H Daubney who was killed by shrapnel. I believe Walter was discharged and then later returned but I’m not sure as it was a long time since I read the records. He was living in Bolton before and after the war. Any help would be greatly appreciated!.. kind regards Jayhen

I have had a quick look and on ancestry there is only showing an entry in the  UK, World War I Pension Ledgers and Index Cards, 1914-1923 which I can't access as ancestry charge extra to view them in Fold 3.
More than 60% pf WW1 service records were destroyed by bombing fire and water in WW11, Medal Roll index cards do survive but don't give any personal information.
I took a look for his service records on Findmypast but there is nothing showing for him in military records as yet. There are the census records including the 1921 census and the 1939 register plus probate records. It is getting late here but others will be along to search for more.
