Photos Dating Request - Two Photos Taken in Geelong, Australia
« on: Friday 25 March 22 22:28 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I wish to get an idea of the dates of the two attached photos please.
The large wedding group was taken in Germantown, Geelong, Victoria and I have no idea exactly who they are although I have a few candidates.
The family photo (sorry about the quality) is possibly the couple who got married in the previous photo.
Dating the photos will help in working out who they are.
Thanks
Bob

I would say that they are both Edwardian and I don't think the second photo is the same as the bride and groom.

The bride and groom are on the far right. They look like the same people in the other photo to me?

The bride and groom are on the far right.
No, they are centre right. The bride is the woman in white with the veil.
The groom looks to be the same as the man in the second photo.
Not so certain about the woman, but possibly the same.

A question - was this a second marriage for the groom? He seems quite a bit older than the bride

Thanks for your replies so far.
Even though the family photo is named SCHEFFERLE FAMILY we are not really sure it is that family. If it is then bride is Helena Josephina SCHEFFERLE and the groom Henry Richard TWITE both born about 1880 and married in 1899. Their first five kids, as in the photo, were born between 1900 and 1911. Which I suppose fits with the proposed Edwardian era suggested by Treetotal.
However we are still really not sure who is who in the zoo.

If it helps at all, the two bridesmaids closest to the left of the newly weds, look to be sisters of the bride.

I think the bridal couple are the same as in the later family  photo.

Looking at the left hand of the bridegroom, I see a ring on the little finger.

With a lot of enlarging ( and squinting!) I think /i can make out the ring on the father in the family photo.

The oldest boy  looks to be between 12 and 14 years to me.

Thanks very much Neale1961 & sparrett for your very helpful observations (and squinting!).
Just wondering if anybody else would like to comment on the era of both photos or do we all agree with Treetotal's assessment of 'Edwardian'

Hi, just a newbie here, and it is affected by the image quality, but my initial reaction to the second picture was earlier. Though this is confused by what appears to be  a “Standard” tie being worn by the man. I have to say am not fully up to speed on Australian fashion.
