Name of marriage witness
« on: Tuesday 29 March 22 23:19 BST (UK) »
Link: https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1898/10426/5796174.pdf

On the link, the first marriage (13) are for my 2nd great grandparents, Michael McGahey and Jane McManus. It says in the presence of Rose McGahey but I can't make out who the top person's surname is. Does it say his first name is Bernard? Can anyone help?

I too see Camiskey. I wonder if it is supposed to be McCamiskey.  There are a few of that name in the north. If you do a search for Camiskey and McCamiskey you will find some. Another alternative for a name, as opposed to what is actually written here is Camisley and McCamisley.

My reasoning was, a high % of 'a's are fully covered.

Have you thought to look for Bernard in 1901 census?

I had a look for a Bernard Camisky in the 1901 Irish census. I could only find a Anne Carmiskey in Derryhallagh, Monaghan and a Henry McCamiskey, Ballyvalley, Upper Clonallan, County Down.

I did a search to see if there was a death record for a Bernard Camisky/Carmiskey and I didn't find anything but  I found a death record for a Bernard Comasky in Omagh, Tyrone, which isn't too far from where the marriage took place. 22nd December 1889 55 years old: https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_returns/deaths_1889/06125/4749138.pdf

Thanks everyone, now I know what surnames to search for, I had a look and I found a Bernard Comiskey in Fintona Tyrone, 30 year old servant: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Tyrone/Fintona/Ecclesville_Demesne/1743329/

It also says Bernard Duffy is the head of the household and is a Parish Priest, so this looks likely to be the right Bernard Comiskey since the Parish Priest on the marriage certificate is a B. Duffy.

It does look very promising.

Have you found the bride & groom nearby too?

It may be worth looking for a marriage for Bernard & hopefully the groom was his best man?

I looked up records to see if I could find what happened to Bernard Comiskey but have not been able to find anything, even tried a few surname varients. I checked the 1911 Irish Census but couldn't find anything either.
