Hi Monica
In reply #2 Archibald’s death is given as 29/11/87
From SP, I think it is the death registered in Lochaber
Milligan - Jardine – Glencross – Dinwoodie - Brown: (Dumfriesshire & Kirkcudbrightshire)
Clark – Faulds – Cuthbertson – Bryson – Wilson: (Ayrshire & Renfrewshire)
Neale – Cater – Kinder - Harrison: (Warwickshire & Queensland)
Roberts - Spry: (Cornwall, Middlesex & Queensland)
Munster: (Schleswig-Holstein & Queensland) and Plate: (Braunschweig, Neubruck & Queensland & New York)

Hi Monica,
Thank you ever so much for providing all that information/references it really was appreciated.
Very interesting about the crofts and what the Crofters could and could not do - how they actually survived I just don't know - and in my Great Great Grandfather's case with 10 children! I note the ref to 2 Crofters having 2 crofts each - by 1856 my G G Grandfather also had crofts 6 & 7, he must have been doing something right!!
I have the date of my G G Grandfather's death as 29/11/1887, as his eldest son, Donald, stayed on the croft until his death in 1916 I assume that Archibald died on the croft and was buried locally in Spean Bridge?
Cille Choirill - great set of photos there. I was pleased to see that there was a plaque to Major Donald MacDonell of Tirnadris re the first skirmish of the '45 at High Bridge. Is there a plaque at the site of the old High Bridge itself? I intend to try and visit that site as well.
All the best,
Kevin.

...The path eventually joins the old railway line, shortly after which the ruins of the High Bridge crossing a steep gorge of Glen Spean.  There is an interpretation board on the bridge and its role in the 1745 uprising...

Just thinking...Martin Briscoe is a RootsChat member. You could contact him via the Private Message service here and ask him if he has further details on the location of the crofts etc.

See here www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=49873 Just click on the 'Send PM' under his avatar of the left.

Hi Kevin,

Archibald MacDonald was my great great great grandfather.
Looking at our family tree, I think we are sort of cousins.
I am planning to take my sons up to Spean Bridge to research their heritage. I wondered how you got on with your trip, did you find the croft?
Best wishes

Hi MonicaL
I`m new on here and can`t actually PM anyone on this site.
I wonder if you could contact either Clianaig ( Kevin) or Martin Briscoe to see if they found the site of Archibald MacDonald`s croft. My mum has a very old photo of it but were not completely sure where on / near the road it was/ is!

Thanks
