There appears to be a Misses Vincent who did sale from Lyttleton to London in June 1897 on the Ionic- which would be the eight monthsish prior as per the Newspaper report.

The eight months is a mistake and should be eight years (or nine as stated in the other piece).

"a young woman who had a child—the boy before the Court —in her arms"

"Mrs Duckmanton kept him, bringing him up as one of her own children, of whom she had several. She had intended to keep him always, but in the last year he had turned out badly, playing truant from school, stopping out at night, and being generally unmanageable."

Mrs DUCKMANTON had the child in her care for many years.

Fanny DUCKMANTON married in 1887 which was 11 years prior to this story so they really don't fit together.

Hi AmyFisher,

Going back to your original post, are you still interested in the Burnham Industrial School rolls for 1898? I think it's this file:

https://collections.archives.govt.nz/web/arena/search#/item/aims-archive/R12026617/industrial-schools---nominal-rolls

Now that Archives are open again after the protest I can have a look if you want.
