Starting out- Muller/Miller/Prange/Godfrey/Gaul/Gildea/Purcell/Purcell-Gildea

Hi everyone, it's nice to meet you 

I'm relatively new to genealogy and family history research, and although I've made some progress I've hit a bit of a wall now. For my mum's side we have very little to go on, and I seem to have exhausted the information I started with. I'd really like to find any living relatives if I can, because my mum lost her mum when she was a teenager and her dad- before he died- had lost touch with his relatives, so she doesn't know a lot about her history or that part of her family, or have a big family like my dad does.

I have a few particular sticking points in that there are people whose parents I just can't find, but I also haven't been very successful in finding any cousins, even with DNA matching I've only found a couple of people and we don't know how we're related.

I've put my family names from my mum's side in the subject, these are just the ones I know.

Have you checked Surname Interests under the Your Tools section at the bottom of the page?  Scroll to the bottom and have a look.  There may be others researching these names whom you could contact.  You will need to make three posts before you can contact any likely looking relatives.

Looking for living relatives is not a feature of Rootschat as it has a no living persons policy.  You could try Facebook etc to see if you can find anyone through that or other social media sites.

Here are the names farthest back in my tree (on my mum's side) at the moment:

Anthony Gaul (1827-1893) married to Mary Bermingham (1824-?)

Thomas Gildea (1828-1860) married to Maria Purcell (1834-1894) married in India
His father Richard Gildea

Joseph Harcourt Pearson (1823-?) married to Mary Ann(? not certain about this one, just best guess from what I've found online) (1830-1889) Also married in India

Roman Muller (1867-1945) married to Ida Prange(?) (1874-?)
His father Sebastien Muller
Roman changed his name and his family's surnames to Miller later

Charles Godfrey (1859-?)
Harriett(? not sure)

Oh wow, Oonagh was my grandma- you found the record of her going to Kenya! I knew she went, her father worked there, but didn't know exactly when. Thank you  I'm not sure who Maureen was, I'll have to look into that next...

Family search has a lot of information.
Joseph Harcourt Pearson married Mary Ann Newton on 21st Dec 1858.

There are lots of trees for the Gildea surname on Family Search but be careful and back everything up with proof. One tree has 2 families mixed up.
