German wartime postcard
« on: Wednesday 06 April 22 10:58 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone,

I work at a WW2 era heritage attraction and a gentleman brought in a postcard which his father acquired (not quite sure how) sometime during/after the war. It's been in a box since then and no-one has so far been able to read it, even the address is causing problems! He's very interested to know what it's all about - is anyone able to shed some light on this?

Thanks in advance!

Not post-war - it was sent in 1943 per the postmark

I have real problems with that German script. The addressee is I think a Milli Mebeu in Munich.

So it would appear that Willi Weber was a corporal in the Luftwaffe?

Thank you very much for this! Is 'Wl 09414u' a postcode?

WL 09041 is the Feldpostnummer - war service post number
WL could stand for Wehrmacht Luftwaffe, not sure though

The post number 09041 belonged to the
Batterie Heeres-Küsten-Artillerie-Regiment 1290 who fought in France
in 1943

https://www.axishistory.com/books/383-germany-military-other/feldpost/8934-feldpost-numbers-09000-09999

Feldpostnummer 09041
(Mobilmachung-1.1.1940) 5. Batterie Flak-Regiment 6
(25.1.1943-31.7.1943) gestrichen, (Tunis)
(1.8.1943-23.3.1944) 3.3.1944 13. Batterie Heeres-Küsten-Artillerie-Regiment 1290
(7.11.1944-Kriegsende) 2.12.1944 gestrichen.
