What Does This Say And What Does It Mean?
« on: Friday 08 April 22 00:27 BST (UK) »
Hi.

This is from the 1911 Scottish Census. It lists my ancestors, his mother, brothers and sisters.

Joseph Bradley's birth doesn't say Ireland or Scotland like his siblings. I thought it said 'U.S America' at first even though that makes no sense but i'm not so sure the more I look at it.

Why should the birthplace not be the USA?

Is he in Scotland in 1901?

I had a quick look at the transcription on Ancestry but couldn’t see a Joseph Bradley born in the USA.

It’s definitely “US America” in 1911 though.  :) Father’s occupation may explain why Joseph was born in America.

With so few details given it is hard for us to use other methods to help you other than looking at the bare record you have put up.

Are you able to let us have a bigger snip of the census please or written details of the family.
If you let us have his age and the names and ages of the others in the record it would be a big help.

Clear what it says, it has been mentioned before...my query was to try to help answer the why asked by OP or to find out more that would confirm that the record was correct.  I was meaning 'expanded in that it gave an idea  of  all the names in the record.
