James Denning and his Mother Mary.Dorking,Surrey
« on: Saturday 09 April 22 09:27 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find out more about James Denning (base-born) Dec 1805 Dorking, Surrey.  His mother is Mary Denning according to the christening register. I have found out a fair bit about his adult life  but I am trying to find out more about his childhood:where he was brought up;if and where he served an apprenticeship or indentured;addresses he lived at, ect?
Iam also trying to find out about his mother Mary Denning:was Mary in service as a servant;where was she born;didshe eventually marry;what happened to her after the birth of her son, ect?
I have had my DNA done and typed in the name of Denning and the connections of a Denning name from Somerset seem strong they also share DNA with others and I that have James Denning as a common relative. However I cannot find a Mary Denning that fits the age range. Can anyone help?
Are there any records kept of who might of been in service, poor records, adoption records between the years of 1800 and 1825?

Tricky isn't it. there is a Mary Denning abode workhouse who died in 1815 age 30.
Burial St George Middlesex.

We don't know how old the mother of James was when he was born do we?  If she was 20 that might fit but not much information to go on  :-\

I do not know how old she was. I have found several records of births of a Mary Denning and I have also found the record that you are talking about. It is the missing years that I am interested in, as this might give more information. I am trying to find out about thier story more than anything. I suppose I really want to know about records of where they lived. Many thanks for looking.

Witnesses to James Denning's (apparent) first marriage in Shere in 1831 are Charles Chitty, Ann Chitty.
Marriage at Dorking, 26 Nov 1806
William Chitty + Ann Denning
Both single and of the parish

Baptisms following there, including Ann and Charles.

Is Ann Denning a relative of Mary?
Or is it possible even that Mary is Ann?

I did note the witnesses names. I also have a few dna relatives that have  Chitty family from Surrey. So this might be an area to explore. Perhaps her name was Mary Ann.
