Hi Goldie I think we are all learning and being fascinated by this delving into these old French baptisms.  Really giving my French a work out and coupled with the writing a double work out!

Yes, it's been great fun to go down this French route.
After 40 years of a solid brick wall for my 4x great grandfather, not even having any solid proof he was actually French, but with a very distinctive name, the floodgates opened late last year when MyHeritage put something like 426 million French records on-line.

Once you get a foothold in French records they are on the whole much better than English ones. French women kept their maiden names after marriage, so on baptisms, the complete mother's maiden name is always given. What a treat!

No doubt I shall have some more queries yet. My school French of too many years ago doesn't cope with some of the words, and then they digress into Latin!
It's  a good job there re some really helpful Rootschat members on here. They have been amazing. :)
