Patrick Long born Donnegal County about 1798
« on: Friday 22 April 22 00:48 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find information about Patrick Long of Donegal County born about 1798 and emigrated to Canada in 1820.  He may have also been married in Ireland before coming to Canada.

What more do you know about him from Canadian records? Birthplace(townland)?

Any idea what religion he would have been? His birthdate is very early for records for most churches in Co. Donegal.

Patrick was born 65 years before civil registration of births began in Ireland so he wouldn't have had a birth certificate.

Just another couple of queries to add to those from Kiltaglassan.

Did he marry at all?  say in Canada?

What were the names of his children in birth order if you have them.  This can sometimes help with locating parents, g'parents or siblings.  Many Irish followed an Irish naming pattern with their children.

'A traditional naming pattern was often used by Irish parents until the later 19th century:

First son usually named for the father's father
Second son usually named for the mother's father
Third son usually named for the father
Fourth son usually named for the father's eldest brother
Fifth son usually named for the mother's eldest brother
First daughter usually named for the mother's mother
Second daughter usually named for the father's mother
Third daughter usually named for the mother
Fourth daughter usually named for the mother's eldest sister
Fifth daughter usually named for the father's eldest sister. '

Father Patrick Long born Donegal
Mother Hannah Love born Donegal
Child Sydney Ann born 20/8/1849.

ETA Or was his wife Johanna I/Enwright?   or Dillon?

Patrick Long was married before Hannah Love.  In the 1851 Canadian census he came to Canada in 1820.  His children listed were:
James  birth 1822
Rebecca Ann 1824
John 1827
Alexander 1831
Charles 1835
Mary J 1838
Catherine 1842
Eleanor 1845

then married Hannah Love in 1847 and had children

believe Patrick Long married Polly (Mary Ann)  Porter - and had children James., Rebecca, John ( he was names as witness in Rebecca's marriage certificate).  I know from family that Polly Porter was married to * Long and they lived in New Brunswick Canada.
Polly Porter could have died and Patrick married Minah Elizabeth Fitzpatrick and had the other children.  Then she died and he married Hannah in 1847
I can find no sources for Patrick Porter and Polly Porter marriage.  I do not have birth certificate for Polly Porter either.
Minah Elizabeth Fitzpatrick shows up on FS as mother of Alexander but no sources listed.

Patrick is listed on one daughter's birth certificate as having been born in Donegal
