Interestingly, on the 1921 census the ages are listed as follows:
Florence S Smith - 38yrs 7mths
Florence L Smith - 17yrs 9mths
Elsie V Smith - 13yrs 8mths
John A Smith - 6yrs 3mths

This would mean, if the census was taken in June, that Florence's birth month is November. This would fit the birth date of the Florence living with John Whitehouse in 1939. But then who is the Florence living with Alonzo in 1939, with a September birth date?
Warwickshire, Birmingham, Worcestershire, Shropshire, Bridgnorth.

Right, 1921 there is an Alonzo Smith with details as follows:
Address - 3 Market Place, Lichfield Road
Alonzo Smith - 38yrs 6mths - married- no occupation
Florence - wife - 37yrs - home duties
Bertram - son - 14yrs 5mths
Frank - son 12yrs
Albert - son - 6yrs 6mths
Arthur - son 2yrs 3mths
Irene - daughter - 4mths

This is likely the same man in the 1939 census, as there is an Arthur living with him aged 19. But the birth months differ. In 1921 the Alonzo would have been born in December, but in 1939 the birth month is listed as April.

On the WW1 record, there is a receipt of the war badge issued to Alonzo in November 1920. There his home address is listed as 3 Market Place, Lichfield Road.

This surely means that war record belongs to the man I just found in the 1921 census with his wife Florence and those children listed. But it doesn't explain how the 2 daughters listed in his war record from 1914 are in a different house with a Florence Susannah, who he listed as being married to in his war record, whose maiden name was Platford.

That's fascinating! So there was a name change. I wonder why? Were the children's names changed after the marriage to Whitehouse I wonder? I'm so confused!

Also that address at Farm Street is the same as the one in the 1921 census where Florence is living on her own with her 3 children.
