Which Mary would you choose?
« on: Thursday 28 April 22 15:40 BST (UK) »
William George Cox born in Mere Wiltshire 1887, Father Fred Henry b 1862 in Shaftesbury, Dorset. Mother Mary Bulgin.....end of the line? All I have found so far, is a record of their marriage in Shaftesbury in 1885. I'm having no luck with the census either. I was just about to give up when There are 2 birth records which caught my eye, Mary Ann Bulgin b 1859 Wincanton, Somerset. mmn Green. Mary A Bulgin b1866, mmn Kimber Wincanton, Somerset. These are the only 2 possibilities that come close but I'm at a loss how to cross ref. these 2 ladies. A push in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

You need to trace those two Marys.

If you have Fred & Mary's marriage certificate, you have Mary's father's name

You have their mothers' maiden names, so trace their parents' marriages and follow them in the censuses.
Look for wills of the parents to see if they mention their daughters' married names etc.
Hopefully you can then exclude one or both from being your ancestor

the parish marriage in Henstridge for John North & Mary Ann Cox shows her to be a spinster aged 24, no father noted. John North 23 is a carter and his father William John North a shoemaker.
