I do know his name is Thomas Doar
he Married

Beatrice May Turton who was born 12 Aug 1893 Basford, Nottinghamshire, England and died 22 Apr 1974 Ilkeston Derbyshire, England.

Thomas Had two Children
Ada Amy Doar born 8 Jan 1912 Basford, Nottinghamshire, England died Oct 1992 Ilkeston, Derbyshire, England.
and

Francis Frederick Doar born 28 Dec 1923 Basford, Nottinghamshire, England. Died 4 Nov 1983 Kirk Hallam Ilkeston Derbyshire.


I have loads on Beatrice  Ada and Frances. So I am looking for the right Thomas Doar and his parents.

I think Thomas was born in the mid 1880's

I have found the free reference on findmypast to the 1921 census ( they were living in Residence
1921 • Basford, Nottinghamshire, England) This will have the right Thomas Doar's birth year on but want to avoid paying for documents if I don't have to .... yet if I get nowhere on this I might just buy the document...

You have the 1921 census details.
It shows Thomas Doar born 1884 Ilkeston. If I recall, 1921 gives a year and months for age, rather than the year of birth.

Yet just wondering how you know this is the right Thomas Doar? I found a bunch of them Derbyshire around that time??? I couldn't figure out which was the right one

I found one record that he married Beatrice May Turton in late 1911 just after the census

Comberton has given you the baptism of the one I posted and I gave you the 1891 census reference.

If you have found a bunch of them, then you just have to try to follow them to see who married Beatrice.

If you purchase the marriage certificate, it would show his father’s name which would help confirm your findings.

1921 census which you have, shows he was born about 1884.

1891, 1901 and 1911 each show only one person who fits with birth date.

1891 - with parents Thomas and Hannah
1901 - he is not with his parents. There is a Thomas Doar, 16 yrs, a Coal Miner who is in hospital in Ilkeston. His birthplace is described as Heage though.
1911 - Thomas Doar, coal hewer is boarding in Ilkeston.

Then you have
1911 - marriage to Beatrice

Death
1934 Basford
Thomas Doar born abt 1885

The only way to know you have the right one if you are still doubt is to purchase the marriage certificate, as I say.

I think the one you have found looks very promising. I only ask since I had another Thomas Doar already on my tree. that on looked right until a couple weeks ago when I found solid proof it wasn't the right one.

Where is a good site to look up / buy marriage certs. I just found the England GRO site would that have it?

I finally found one thing on Ancestry that is proof they were married Oct-Nov-Dec in 1911 which explains why I can't find Thomas and Beatrice in an earlier census together.

My Grandmother was Ada their Daughter

three others I was looking at before the previous post.
His son went by his middle name which made me think Thomas Could also be his middle name.

Those marriage certs are rather pricey

There is a marriage for John Thomas Doar in 1905, Basford to either Annie Jane Gibson or Ellen Hardy.

1911 Nottingham
George Thomas Doar to either Eva Hudson, Rose Hannah Skelton or Ada Florence Tully.

You may have already done this but just to eliminate John Thomas Doar 1882 Basford and George Thomas  Doar 1885 Nottingham using the marriages supplied by heywood.

John Thomas Doar married Ellen Hardy and had the following children, 1905 in Basford, 1907 in Rotherham, 1909-13 in Sheffield and 1916-21 in Ilkeston. They are in Sheffied in 1911 and in Ilkeston/Basford in 1921,  John Thomas Doar 1882 born Ilkeston with Ellen and 7 children.

George Thomas Doar married Rose Hannah Skelton and had four girls 1910-17 in Nottingham. They are in Nottingham in 1921, George Doar 1885 born Nottingham with Rose and three girls.

As you know that your Thomas is with Beatrice and Ada in 1921, I hope this helps.
