Any 1871 Census Super Searchers?
« on: Thursday 12 May 22 10:10 BST (UK) »
Hello all.

I'm trying to find the whereabouts of the following family in 1871. In 1861 they are at 22 Sherwood St (Liverpool)

Stephen (Steven) McGrady (McGready/MacCready and other variations.) Born Newry Hibernian abt 1828. Usually a Dock Labourer. (He dies in 1879)

Ellen (His wife) Nee Shevlin. Born in Ireland around 1833. (She may have died in 1866 - unconfirmed)

James (Son) Born circa 1851 (not sure if still alive in 1871)

Ellen (Daughter) born 1857

Mary Catherine (Daughter) Born 1859 (not sure if alive in 1871)

They are also known (by deaths of other children etc) to be in Sherwood St in 1867 and Bentinck St in  1879.

Any help gratefully received.

Hi Pauline,

From what I know so far I have:

James - Born 24 Aug 1851 (Death unknown)
Mary Jane - Born and Died Q4 1853
Ellen - Born 23 Mar 1857 (Death unknown but lives till at least 1888, marries and has children)
Mary Catherine - Born 22 Aug 1859 (Death Unknown)
James - Born and Died Q2 1862
Sarah - Born 2 May 1863, Dies Q1 1867

Baptisms seem to happen at St Augustine, though they seem to marry at St Josephs.

There's a bit of depth to the story too as it would appear they marry in 1858 - after having THREE children???? So I'm not sure about the marriage being accurate?

Gosh, Thank you so much Jo. I am waiting for his wife Ellen's death cert as I suspect she died in 1866. I can't find 'free' (Ancestry) burial records (surprising as pretty much all of the family were buried at Ford Cemetery) to try and obtain an address.

Thanks again - very much appreciate your time

There is also a burial for a Stephen McGrady, of Sherwood Street, aged 2 months, at St Anthony’s Liverpool, on 7 Aug 1856.

Jo, I have only just seen this - apologies! Incredible information that is invaluable as it hopefully places the family in this address when my X2 Gt Grandmother is born a year after little Stephen's death. I just need to find her now!!

Thank you so much.

Did Ellen have a child in 1874?
Admitted to the workhouse, 23 Dec 1874, Ellen McGrady, 17, single, servant, of 20 Sherwood Street, for labour, and then another entry the next day with child James, aged 1 day.
