Thank you Debra…that’s interesting…where did you find that info?

On the search page under 'additional fields' you can specify a date of death range or an exact date of death.  There is also an 'additional information' field where you can put any keywords such as St. Nicholas Hospital or Nurse or SRN, parents' names, street names etc.

You can also search the GRO death registrations and there are very few deaths for young women registered in the district of Woolwich in June 1944.  You can perhaps widen your search and make a list of deaths of possible women which you can then look for in the CWGC indexes.

As Debra has clarified the provenance of the 16th June bombing and has also introduced Smithies Road as having been hit on 18th June, perhaps the following might be of some assistance.

Within the memoir at this link: https://www.royal-arsenal-history.com/royal-arsenal-stories.html (from the Royal Arsenal Stories website) is this:

"It was 1942 when we were asked to be Light Rescue Squad Volunteers. We were issued with dark Blue Battledress Type of Uniforms by the Woolwich Borough Council and were taught to drive some old pre-war London taxis, which had been retrieved from the Crystal Place dump. They were the Beardmore type with the gate change of gear; their main trouble was that the batteries were worn out. They were used to stow rescue equipment and I used one to carry injured people from a bombsite at Smithies road, Abbeywood to St. Nicholas Hospital, a VI had killed 6 people on 18th June 1944."

None of the Smithies Road casualties are to be found in Ancestry's "UK, World War II Civilian Deaths, 1939-1945" dataset. The Woolwich/Greenwich section(s) appear(s) to be missing.

All of those names can be found living in Smithies Road on 1939 register. Numbers 44 to 56

Hello everyone.
I am sorry that I didn’t respond sooner…for some reason I had no notification of your replies!
That’s interesting and also very sad that those who were killed in the Smithies Road bombing weren’t recorded as Civilian Casualties.
I think as Smithies Road was the 18th June, the one on St Nick’s must’ve been the 16th.
I will have a search of the BNA…think a subscription would be a food idea! 😉

It is only Ancestry that has omitted those records. Nic. has provided a link to the Smithies Road casualties on the CWGC site in reply #12.
