Jeremiah Doody and Mary Sullivan
« on: Sunday 22 May 22 18:10 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I have traced my paternal line back to Jeremiah Doody and Mary Sullivan. They were having 7 children in or around Tournafulla from 1865 to 1879. Have found 6 of the 7 in the Tournafulla (RC) parish register. Am looking for info on Jeremiah & Mary. When married, when born, and/or parents. The Tournafulla register goes back to 1867. I would guess they were married 1863-4 in Tournafulla. Likely born early 1840's. I have exhausted online avenues.

Thanks,
Dan

Welcome to RootsChat, Dan  :)

Just putting in some links for others, who may be able to help.

They were having 7 children in or around Tournafulla from 1865 to 1879. Have found 6 of the 7 in the Tournafulla (RC) parish register.

From Irishgenealogy.ie, 3 of the 6/7 children born 1865-1870. All born at Glenmore (east/west?) townland.

Indexes on Ancestry show this marriage:
Killeedy - January - Ancestry has it as 1861 but could be 1861/1865  ???
Jeremiah Doody and Maria Sullivan  - top of right hand page

https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000634909#page/122/mode/1up

The register pages are difficult to search to find it on Catholic registers NLI.

Welcome from me also. ;)

Hi,
See this link, Tournafulla.
https://www.bing.com/maps?q=Tournafulla&satid=id.sid%3Ac6d69e97-626f-51d8-1167-4a7ed620353d
Glenmore is between Ashford and Glendarragh, Glenmore comes under Strand. If you zoom in slow you will see Athea, this is the area where my Doody family were from.
Do you know of any siblings to Jeremiah or his parents?
Maggsie

You may have this OP, but here's the death record for Mary Doody in 1903 aged 66 yrs at Tour (short for Tournafulla). Her son Michael was the informant.

Michael and family in 1901 census.
House 5 in Toornafulla (Glengort, Limerick).

His birth in 1872. His father Darby (Jeremiah) Doody registered it, and born at Gurtnaskela (sic). Gortnaskehy townland with Toornafulla just to the west.

Kiltaglassan,

Thank you. I have the civil registrations for all of their children.
However, the death notice for Mary Doody was a surprise.
I confess to being confused about the civil regs. I have seen Newcastle West for the births, but would not have looked at Abbeyfeale. I would have thought that one office would handled everything.

Thank you again,

Dan

heywood,

The marriage record in Killeedy is real find. I have looked through the parish registers for surrounding parishes. But once my eyes start to water, I have to leave off. They can be difficult to read.

Thank you so much,

Maggsie,

I know next to nothing about Jeremiah and Mary. Only that they had 7 children in Tournafulla parish.
I have no parents or siblings for Jeremiah. I will say that I am completely at a loss about the townlands in Ireland. The civil records for this one family give several birth places. Confusing.

Thank you,

Dan
