Edward TURNER marriage
« on: Sunday 05 June 22 23:49 BST (UK) »
Can anyone tell me what the bride's surname is please. Have two versions of it already but won't say what they are just yet.

It is from Barnston in Essex from 1771.

Thanks
Ian C

If it is Dowsett why does it have a 'd' at the end?

Possibly just the way the Vicar wrote things. It might have made life a bit easier if Ann had signed her name.

It certainly looks like a ‘d’, and none of the other words ending in ‘e’ have been written this way.  I’m not sure of Dowsette or my own guess of Donsette, to be honest!

I’ve looked on FindMyPast, where there are two transcriptions relating to the marriage:

Essex Marriages and Banns 1537-1935 have it transcribed as Dowsettd
and
England, Boyd's Marriage Indexes, 1538-1850 have it as Dowsett

Not sure if this helps at all!
