Rooney Ancestry Ireland
« on: Monday 06 June 22 12:36 BST (UK) »
Hi Everyone,

I have been doing my ancestry tree for the last year now, Scottish records are fantastic but the Irish ones are stressing me out! I know the names of my 3rd great grandparents and their son who moved to Glasgow but i can not find a trace of them anywhere! another ancestry member has them plus siblings and two generations before in Athenry but he has not responded to my messages and has no sources for me to check. where do i go from here?
Ive tried roots.ie. geneology.ie and family search

Hi SRooney

Welcome to RootsChat  :)

Why don't you add their names and dates and what you have found for them so far. People here on RC will happily work with you to try to find more and point out possible further sources to looks at hopefully.

Hi Monica, thank you for your reply 😊  so my great grandfather x2 was born around 1850 I have him on 2 census records in Glasgow tge first in 1891 and the 1901. The 1891 census says his birthplace was Sligo, on his marriage certificate his parents are named as Martin Rooney and Catherine Fallin and that's where the trail ends.

I am only looking at a transcript (a/try) for the censuses. In 1891, it is Patrick's wife Elizabeth Docherty who stated she was from Sligo, Patrick just shows Ireland? Is this in error?

Were the family RC? There is a marriage on the RC database on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

PATRICK ROONEY and ELIZABETH DOHERTY
30/1/1879
Glasgow, St Alphonsus'

From 1891, for background here:

Patrick Rooney 40 Boat Yd Lab b. Ireland
Elizabeth Rooney 38 Wife b. Sligo, Ireland
Mary Rooney 16...born before parents' married in 1879 wasn't she? Birth in Glasgow in 1873 in Partick?
James Rooney 9
Patrick Rooney 7
Annie Rooney 4

Address: 18 Whitehall St , Glasgow/ Andestston

They are hiding aren't they in 1881!

When and where did Patrick Snr die? If in Scotland, does his death reg give the same details for his parents?

Patrick and Catherine lost early a number of their children didn't they  :-\ I was just checking whether they had used the names of Martin and Catherine for their early born children, but they look to have died as babies.

Yes thats them! I have their details, marriage cert, death certs and my father remembers them both! It's Patrick's Parents I'm trying to find, on their marriage certificate their names are quite clear Martin Rooney and Catherine Fallin. There is another ancestry member who has them (with Patrick as a son) on their tree with other children plus a further two generations all living the Galway but I can't find any sources to back it up and the person hasn't responded to messages.

Could you please give all the information about the parents on the marriage certificate (of Patrick and Elizabeth)
Martin Rooney, residence, deceased or not, occupation
Catherine Fallin Rooney residence, deceased or not.

ETA Fallin may be Fallon in Irish records

ETA to change father's name to Martin Rooney

On the marriage certificate of Patrick and Elizabeth his parents are Martin Rooney Farm labourer and Catherine Rooney MS Fallin (deceased)
I haven't been able to source Patrick's death certificate yet.
