Help Finding a Will Please
« on: Monday 13 June 22 00:08 BST (UK) »
Hello

Would anyone be able to help me track down a specific will.

I am trying to find a will for a male called John Pitches/Pytches (Although the spelling could be Pichis, Pechis, Pitcher, Pitchis, peche) who died in Barnardiston in suffolk on 15/08/1644.

I know this will exists, however I quite literally cannot find it.

Can anyone help???

Cheers

I cannot see it in TNA catalogue nor separately on Suffolk archives site.

What is the context that you “know the Will exists”.

Added…you don’t know that he died in Barnardiston, that is the date and place of his burial.
However, being pedantic still didn’t help with finding it

My family tree was researched in the 90s. However modern technology has meant that I have found an error in the tree where one of the ancestors is wrong (which is likely to be John Pitches of Barnardiston d1636). I am trying to correct this currently. However finding details is proving difficult. Particularly as it appears that the Hundon records have been lost before 1674 (access to these would have been very helpful). There are however two John Pitches who died at this location.

We have notes about work completed on the family tree by the people as the time (who have now died). Within this it states that at some point we have seen a copy of this will. However it is not attached to the paperwork we have remaining, in all likelihood it was discounted at the time, however it becomes very relevant now.

In relation to this male, there is a burial record which states that the John Pitches who died 1644 is buried at Barnardiston with the date stated as the date of death, although I suppose this could be the date of burrial rather than the death.

Most or our family wills are in the archdeaconry of Suffolk or Canabury wills. I cannot however search 1638 to 1700 for the archdeaconry of Suffolk.

Cheers
