EDWARD HODGSON SCOTT (b1847 in Sunderland)
« on: Monday 20 June 22 19:29 BST (UK) »
Help needed please.
Trying to locate the whereabouts of my Great Great Grandfather on an 1881 census.
He, his wife SELINA and their family were living in SUNDERLAND on the 1871 and 1891 census'.
He also appeared in the local newspaper in 1876 and 1885 in relation to his job as the pilot of a boat at the mouth of the river Wear in SUNDERLAND.
Any suggestions or a link to a record on FindMyPast would be most welcome.
Jim

Hi William
Perfect fit
The 3 children fit with my tree and are those still living at the time. Edward and Selina had 6 children before 1881, sadly the other 3 passed away before they reached the age of 3.
Thank you very much for your help
Jim

Hi John
Thank you
It is the 1881 census I was looking for and is the same as William mentioned.

More help please
Same gentleman this time in 1911.
Have found a record of a Edward Scott in a workhouse in Hylton Road, Sunderland but this lists his former occupation as a glass works labourer. Quite a change from being a pilot if this is him.
Again any help appreciated
Jim

That one is down as being single.

Was his wife still alive in 1911?

Yes a family tree has his death 25 May 1918 Sunderland workhouse so maybe that 1911 was him and he fell on hard times after her death.
