The Dreadnaught Boys
« on: Wednesday 22 June 22 07:55 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone knows how to find out if a boy who came to Sydney was under the Dreadnaught Boys Scheme. I found a website that had a comment box to ask but my comment wouldn't publish. I tried googling it but there doesn't seem to be any other web site to try.

I have George Brownell Harris b.31 Jan 1907, he arrived on the Euripides May 1923 and seems to be with a lot of other teenagers. The ship departed Liverpool UK 28 March 1923.

Hi,

Thank you so much. The first link you mentioned is the one I tried before I added this post.

Yes that's right. The passenger list for the Euripides just had George B Harris b 1907 on it so was trying to find if there was a proper list with full names on it so I could verify it's my George. The only other thing I have to go on is where he's from and he's given his father's birthplace. George was born in Londonderry Ireland as his father was a lieutantent master gunner in the Royal Garrison Artillery posted in Ireland then back to England

Passenger Lists leaving Uk
have on the Euripides 28th March 1923
Geo B Harris  address is Weston in Arden, Nuneaton.
The 1921 Census (free results) have a
George Bronnell (transcribed) Harris born 1907 with Joseph, Alicia and two others in the household.
looking at the 1911 it looks like this may be your George?
He appears to have a sister Mary Alicia born Londonderry 1903 on the 1921 (using free searches)

In the 1911 census George is resident at Grand Casemath Barracks Gibraltar

Registration district number 641
Sub district number 21
Enumeration district 13
Piece number 34996
Schedule 9999
Census reference RG14PN34996 RD641 SD21 ED13 SN9999

The image shows Alicia and children Joseph, Mary, Harriett and George.  All born in Ireland.  Dad presumably is elsewhere.
