Three Counties Asylum Stotfield Biggleswade
« on: Friday 24 June 22 16:18 BST (UK) »
Would Asylum patients be listed on the 1881 census or were Hospital patients (and Prison Inmates) not listed on the 1871-81 censuses?

The inmates are listed on the 1871/81 Census for that Asylum.

thanks!

found the 1881 Census for the Asylum.  Unfortunately the patients listed by initials only - no full names.

Yes, this was pretty common for asylums.

If you are seeking to trace a particular person, it appears some records are held at the Bedfordshire County archives and they have abstracted a few records from around 1880s online:

Details of all holdings - would probably need to engage a researcher or pay the archives directly if you can't visit in person).
