Fergie: a great photo. I've got a memory, or a false memory, of that street before the houses were demolished. Is that possible? (I was born in 1950) My Dad was born in  1922 at no 118 Main St.

If you have any information on any St Ninians Patersons, that would be gratefully received - even those of more recent vintage. Having come to family history only recently, like many, I regret not quizzing Grans and Grandads now gone. The other day I discovered the existence of a Great Uncle Alex Paterson, who died only in 1974, aged 84 - whom I have no memory of ever speaking to, let alone being aware of his existence. Yet, he must have been at my Grandad's (his younger brother) funeral in 1965 when I was a teenager.

Thanks again,

Peter

Hi Peter, Its been a long time since you posted, but I see you said your father was born at 118 Main street. My gg grandparents lived there according to the 1881 census before they departed for Australia in 1883. They were James Mcfeat and his wife Margaret Muirhead. They had 3 children there  Helen (1876), Robert (1878) and Mary (1881) and another 3 in Australia, the first of whom was my g Grandmother Jessie in 1884.

Robert Paterson and Helen Turnbull were my 4X great-grandparents.
-son Thomas 1783 m Helen Binnie
--dau Margaret 1813 m Andrew MacLean (another St Ninians family, in Throsk)
---dau Helen McLean 1843 married John May of Culross ( my g-grandparents)

One of Thomas and Helen's sons (ploughmanWilliam Paterson) m Margaret Stalker, and emigrated to Ontario Canada in 1869 with dau Mary, and nephew Alexander Wallace, son of Thomas and Andrew's daughter Elizabeth.
Can't find any of the Scotttish ones on the mementomori website, but thanks for mentioning it. May tree on ancestry and also GenesReunited

May: interesting and useful information. Can you clarify something for me, though? That 1783 date for the marriage of Thomas and Helen: was that not Thomas's date of birth? And are the other dates, all dates of the marriages?

Many thanks,

PTP

Birth dates. I have marriage dates on my trees.
My ( May) family kept the Paterson name as a middle name for generations.
