Hi folks, I am new here and indeed to ancestry. I have traced family back to 1777 but can get no further with my current experience. This is what I have, I m looking to push back past Thomas Winn 1777 :

Thomas Winn
Born about 1777 in Fatfield, Durham, England, United Kingdom
Son of [father unknown] and [mother unknown] [sibling(s) unknown]

Husband of Betty (Burrow) Winn — married [date unknown] [location unknown]
Husband of Mary (Blakey) Winn — married 5 Nov 1810 in Bingley, West Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom

Descendants
Father of Richard Winn, Joseph Winn, John Winn, John Winn, Thomas Winn, Diana Winn and Mary (Winn) Ritson
Died about 1864 at about age 87 in Durham, England, United Kingdom

Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

Hi,

Welcome to RootsChat  :)

I found this Thomas WYNNE,

20 Oct 1776
Thos S. of Wm WYNNE of Chaterhaugh Waggon and Isabel his Wife.

https://www.rootschat.com/links/01ro0/

Chester-le-Street included the township of Lambton which is the birthplace Thomas gave in 1851.

Here is a map that shows how close Lambton, Chartershaugh and Fatfield are,

Hope this helps,
Daisy

Hi Folks, thanks for the pointers. I cannot access the Ancestry.com stuff. But looking in FreeReg as suggested, I found the following :

1 Elizabeth KIRTLY William WINN    Marriage    25 May 1751    Durham    Whickham : St Mary the Virgin : Unspecified
2 Martha HARRISON William WINN    Marriage    27 May 1757    Durham    Heworth : St Mary : Unspecified
3  Isabella CURLEY William WINN    Marriage    26 May 1776    Durham    Chester-le-Street : St Mary and St Cuthbert : Unspecified

Of these, 1 & 3 seem the best fit. And folk seem to suggest (3) is the one favoured.
In the same search I found a Jane Winn born 1780 in Fatfield Durham. The Fatfield Lead!

Now, on Wikitree, I find a Jane Winn (Birkbeck) born 1780 to a father William Wynne and Elizabeth Winn (William was a wagonman) an occupation for a William that cropped up before.

Is this looking promising?
Any suggestions or further leads?
Thank you so much.

The death of Thomas Winn 1864 registered Houghton Le Spring gives an age of 92
M Quarter vol. 10a page 206

Keep in mind the age is given by the living, possibly his grand daughter Dinah Ritson who was with him 1861 age 19
