where is this #4
« on: Saturday 02 July 22 11:51 BST (UK) »
My last query was answered very quickly! Here's another.

I think these photos were taken to show off the car rather than the location, but I am wondering where they are. Two views from a slightly different angle of I'm assuming the same place, somewhere in England in 1956 I guess. The building in photo1 with the double ionic columns looks quite distinctive. (Also wondering if they were allowed to drive onto the grass, or whether they could get away with it being tourists?  ;D )

Any suggestions as to the location would be most welcome.

It was before my time, so I don't really have any idea, but did we have such lovely buses/coaches in Blighty back then?!

I'm wondering if it might be on Clifton Downs somewhere near Bristol Zoo? I'll keep checking!

I was thinking that it could be Clifton  as I once went to a course in Bristol and we stayed in there. I recall walking by houses like that.  Also, I've just shown OH, who was from that region, and he said that it could well be.

I'm trying to get a Streetview link  to  some houses around Clifton Downs but  Google's misbehaving - or I'm doing something daft!

Could anyone else do a stroll around there and see what you think.

I was a student in Bristol....at the moment I'm virtually walking around the Downs!

Westbury Park Road rather than near Zoo looks like the photographs...but can't match it exactly so far!

Still searching...Clifton Down Road looked hopeful...but not quite!

Realise now that I must have walked miles when I was a student!

The trees have grown since then so it's difficult to get a good view of some of the houses.

OH suggests that the other place that it might be is Cheltenham. I don't know much about it except one of the olden day Rootschatters lived there and I've passed the turn off for it on the M5 many many times.
