Richard Lewknor
« on: Tuesday 05 July 22 14:07 BST (UK) »
Hi All,

I am having difficulty reading names in the will of Roger Lewknor knight of Trotton 1478. The will is in Ancestry. I can decipher some of them but cannot find his son Richard Lewknor. I have attached a screenshot with what I believe is his name highlighted in yellow. Is the Richard abbreviated as can be the case? All other names are written in full. There are sons: Thomas, Roger elder & younger, George, Edward, Reynold and Richard.

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Regards

Gigi

Hi, Gigi,

Yes.  That is the abbreviation for Richard.

Is there a Bennet Lewknor mentioned in the Will?  I haven't pursued Bennet as of yet.  But she is my 12th great-grandmother.  She married William Barnes and their daughter, Alice, married John Honywood circa 1523/4.

Hi Zacktyr,

Thanks! It took me a while to "see" that in Roger's will!

No Bennet is not mentioned in her grandfather's will. Unfortunately her father Richard hasn't got a will!

I am descended from Mary Twisden the daughter of Bennet and her husband Thomas Twisden. Bennet married three times!
Mentioned in will of husband Thomas Twysden of Chelmington in Great Chard written 12th October 1500.
Mentioned in will of husband Vincent Finch of Sandhurst gent, written 10th March 1523.

Do you have any sources linking Bennet to her father Richard? Also her mother is a bit of a mystery. She is described as daughter of Michelgrove in the Lewknor pedigree in Sussex Archaeological Collections vol III. No first names given!

Regards

Gigi
