"Probate Deed for a George DOWNEY in 1828, however there were two details that were confusing. The first is that George is shown as a widower and secondly it mentions a John DOWNEY who was new to me."

How is John DOWNEY mentioned?. Is he a beneficiary?.  If he is a beneficiary, what does he inherit?

Who else is named as beneficiary, and what do they inherit?

When was the Will written?  Who are the witnesses?

I read the 'lawful natural brother and sister only next of kin'   to mean they are the brother and sister

of the deceased George Downey.

The George, John and Isabella are of the R.C faith, not C of E.
Marriage of George to Jane Laing 1775 might be their parents,  R.C..

George married Isabella Yeouens 9 April 1788 R.C

John who married Jane ? prior to 1801 all his children are baptized R.C.  and a Mary Yeouens is a god parent to Jane born 1801 and John born 1814. His brother George Downey is god parent to George born 1802.

Isabella Downey who married Thomas Copling/Coupland 27 June 1787 also an R.C.

Thomas Coupling or Coupland and Isabella Downey married 17 Jan 1787 at Whittingham.

Burial at Whittingham, 18 Feb 1837.
Isabella Copeland, age 75

I agree with amondg that John and Isabella are George's brother and sister.

Gary, I think you may have the right baptism for your George in 1758, but the Alnwick George who died in 1827 is not yours.

Tyne Mercury; Northumberland and Durham and Cumberland Gazette, 18 Sep 1827
"Deaths.
At Alnwick, on the 11th inst. aged 60, Mr Geo. Downey, tailor."

Two x "George Downey, tailor" dying 1827 in the same locale does muddy the waters. But, against the 1828 probate deed, if I was a betting man my money would not be on "your" George (husband of Dorothy) being the subject of the deed.

She's in Newcastle in 1841.
If we could find out where her last resting place is, it might lead to George's missing burial :-\
