Need help - UNETT family
« on: Wednesday 06 July 22 14:49 BST (UK) »
I could use some help tracing the Unetts. Here's what I have so far:

Unett Hodges 1686-1760 of Whitbourne, Hef., son of
James (Jacobus) Hodges = (m. 1681 Whitbourne) = Ann W(e)ight (b.1660 Bishops Frome), daughter of
John Weight = Elizabeth Unett (married 1657, Bishops Frome)

Others have identified Elizabeth's parents as George Unett als Abell and Anne Seman but I can't see any evidence for this.

The core Unett lineage seems to descend in this part of the country from Unett = Brace in the 1400s, and descendents seem pretty well accounted for. Castle Frome ends up being a main centre for the tribe, and it's not far from Bishops Frome. There are also Unetts recorded in the area at this time in Acton Beauchamp, Suckley, Leigh, Mathon, Stockton on Teme, Bosbury and Colwall.

Can anyone help me resolve this please?

For anyone else interested in George Unett als Abell and looking for evidence, have a look at the wills transcribed on this site: https://willsdb.gukutils.org.uk/HEF/WillsU.html

That ties the whole family together

STILL NEED HELP PLEASE!

I have George Unett als Abell in Herefordshire, 1597-1680 - his will, and that of his son (or at least the transcriptions thereof), confirm the rather specific name "Unett als Abell" - there are lots of Unetts in that area but the others don't have "als Abell". I've seen it proposed that he descends from another branch of the Unett family from Stone, Staffs. There are indeed records there of a Humphrey Unett als Abell d.1567 and his children George (b. 1578), Agneta (b. 1569) and Margaret (b. 1579), (Humphrey left a will which is available online but I can't read the old style script).

Is it possible Humphrey's son, George, moved all the way from one part of the Unett tribe in Staffs, to a different Unett tribe in Herefordshire and was the father of the George I mention at the start?

Any help, info, advice etc. would be very welcome!
