Looks to me that he may have remarried Rosie.
1861/1871 Census at same address in Honiton but with 2 occps for John Gardener and Shoemaker

F/S has a Marriage 20 Mar 1855 Bentley, Hampshire for John Long/Elizabeth Bright
His Father William.

Trish I did notice the different occupations for John Long on the census records 1861/71 that's why I asked if he married again ..That marriage you found no image either on Ancestry ::)

Thats the only marriage I thought may be a possible and as William/Charlotte are in Hampshire it could be right.
