This seems to be the only photo of my grandfather.

22.81Kb.  As japeflakes says - not enough pixels to work on.  My attempts much the same as his though I smoothed it more but you wouldn't know who it was, so I'm not posting my FAIL today.
 If you have the original photo, no matter what size it is, if you are using a Scanner you should use the Preview function and Move the borders close to the head and Adjust the dpi to the maximum and get more pixels into the finished Scan.  The MAX size for posting here is 500kb so give as much as you can manage and we can improve it much more, cheers, Ian
