Searching for the missing RUTH FLOYD although she traveled alone on this ship SSSJOHN in 1936. Ship Logs Say she is a 'model' and she is 36 Years of age. She was my GG Grand. All I can say is, if only we could figure out why she left her home all alone. She married our papa and borne our lineage.

Welcome to Rootschat Emily  :D

Is it possible that she used her second name?

FLOYD, MARION  RUTH     CARMICHAEL
GRO Reference: 1900  S Quarter in ST SAVIOUR SOUTHWARK LONDON  Volume 01D  Page 89

Going by your information this would suggest that she was born in 1900.  The above appears to be the only one that would fit.  This is assuming that she was born in the UK.

I'll see what else I can find.

This particular Marion is on the 1911 census residing at 8 Merrick Sqr S E, St Mary Newington, London

Her parents are John Albert & Marion Floyd and she has siblings Ethel (older) and Peter (younger).

Do you know who her parents were and whom, when and where did she marry?

There is a marriage for a Marion R Floyd to a Charles W Woodcock in 1930.  Does this match with what you know or not?

More information would be helpful otherwise false trails could be chased.

Welcome to RootsChat from me  :)

Ruth Floyd showing as aged 38 on the manifest of SS John which left Southampton, England for New York on 16 Oct 1939.

Her nationality is showing as American and returning to the US.

Her address on the shipping manifest in England was 2 Valley Road, Crayford which is in Kent.

The 1939 register taken on 29 September 1939, so just a few weeks before she left England. She is showing at this address, 2 Valley Road, Crayford with husband Arthur J N Floyd, a fitter by occupation. She looks to have the middle initial of A and her birth date 27 March 1901.

Now, the 1939 register shows her as a housewife, the manifest as a model. I can't see marital status on the manifest. There is also a line through her entry on the manifest. Did she actually travel on that crossing?

Have you found her on the US 1940 census? As Girl Guide asks, what else do you have on her? If this is her in England in 1939, Floyd would look to be her married name not maiden surname.

There is a marriage in Dartford Kent in the 3rd Qrt 1939 for:

Arthur J M Floyd to a Ruth A Eisenhauer or Henry
Vol 2a, pg 4091

Not clear from the index how these names work for Ruth (Eisenhauer or Henry). The marriage registration would need to be checked.

Welcome to RootsChat  ;)

As others have said, you haven't included much info. for anyone to know exactly who to look for or where.

Searching for RUTH FLOYD she traveled alone on this ship SSSJOHN in 1936. Ship Logs Say she is a 'model' and she is 36 Years of age. She was my GG Grand.
Ruth was your 2 x g g/mother i.e. who was her child (g g/parent) you descend from?

The BC of your g g/parent will give you the details of her maiden name.

Please post as much info. known to you as is possible, including names, maiden names, dates & places so people have an idea of where & when to look for info.

As your post is on the 'Beginners Board' nobody knows where in the world your query relates to i.e. can you please include place names, county & country with your info.

There is a Ruth Floyd nee Henry born 27 Mar 1901 sailing in 1940 on the SS Roosevelt from Galway to New York.  She gives her place of birth as Reading, Pennsylvania. This matches with MonicaL's posts above.

Address in the USA given as 532 Windsor St. Reading, Pennsylvania.

Left Galway 02 Jun 1940, arrived New York 09 Jun 1940.

Edit: The Reading directories for 1940 and 1941 show that address as William Gries, a tobacco manufacturer.
