Ancestry - How to add correct information/comments to a public tree
« on: Friday 15 July 22 15:24 BST (UK) »
On the top right of the profile page click the button marked Tools, then click second line View Comments.  Correct information, best with sources, can be added.

Can help to point other researchers in the right direction. Also can relieve frustration about poorly researched and oft copied trees!

I've done that a few times but no response from the tree owner. She  says that she goes back to Robert the Bruce but she made a major error about our common ancestor's parenthood.

Whilst it is very commendable to do as you write alas reality is not what one would hope for.

In 12 years of researching I lost track many years ago of errors found on other peoples trees.

If you post a correction, 99/100 you will get no response.

I had a closeish Cousin totally wrong with a branch on her tree, did I get so much as a thank you…….no.

Biggles - you do it your way and I'll do it mine  :)

I started rearching my ancestry when I was 8 in 1953.

PS - the comments are for others to read. To warn them of errors.

I do the same as Gadget, I have had a few thanks from the tree owner, but they are the exception.

Mostly I think it is a waste of time because few other people bother to look at the comments, they simply carry on copying the wrong information to their own trees. Some trees have such glaring errors, you have to be blind or a  moron not to notice.
