Robert GARROD (b 1832 possibly Norfolk)
« on: Saturday 16 July 22 22:06 BST (UK) »
Need lots of help on this one please :
Birth - unable to find any info on FindMyPast I do have a hint to another tree which lists his date of birth as 12th February 1832 in Wangford.
1841 Census - living with his father and siblings in Sibton, Blything, Norfolk. I think his mother died soon after the 6th child (Eliza) was born in 1839. He later re-married Lydia Welch.
1851 Census - cannot find him on a census
1861 Census - Think I found him lodging with sister Emma and her family in Witnesham in Suffolk
1866 Marriage certificate to Lydia Welch in Dalton le Dale , Seaham suggests his dob is 1834
1871, 1881 and 1891 Census' he is in Sunderland
1901 Census - cannot find him on a census
Death unable to find  any info on FindMyPast but I have a scribbled note suggesting 1907
Any info filling in the gaps or correcting my finding would be appreciated
Jim

No birth registrations prior to 1.7.1837 - baptismal entries in parish records - presuming he was baptised & presuming the entry has been transcribed.  Check Family Search - www.familysearch.org

Does the tree show his correct birthyear & birthplace as per the various census entries?

Does marriage cert confirm his fathers name as per the 1841 entry?    You don’t give any fathers name.

Line of your post starting “1841 census” is confusing.  Reads as though his father remarried Lydia Welch but later you say Robert married Lydia Welch

What “gaps” are you trying to fill

That Emma was married so Garrod was her married surname.

Head of household was Jeremiah Garrod age 33 - brother perhaps?

Have you got the marriage date correct or were the first children born before the marriage, as on 1871 you have Jane 10 and Robert 8

Here's Lydia and hte children in Sunderland in 1861

Ann Gibson    75    Lodging house keeper
Lydia Garrad   23    Wife b Yarmouth Mariner's wife
Jane Garrad    1    b Yarmouth
Robt Wm Garrad  1 month b Bishop Wearmouth

Suggests Robert might be away at sea, hence his being missing on 1861

Have you tried variations in surname?
I often get Garrod "hits" when searching for my Garrad family :D

This presumably is not the right 1841 family as all born Suffolk but ties in with the 1861 Robert as lodger.

Robert Garrod 50
Jeremiah 14
James 12
Robert 10
Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire
Burroughs - Arlingham Glos
Pick - Frocester Glos

1871 - born 1833 Yarmouth
1881 - b 1832 Wangford

You need to give full details of each census rather than people having to look them up to get the info
