Latin abbreviation in the Little Domesday Book
« on: Thursday 28 July 22 09:58 BST (UK) »
Very quick question.

I'm just self-educating myself on the Latin used in the Domesday Book. I cannot work out the full word Sep. The National Archives transcribes and translates it as 'then as now'.

I assume the crossed descender means either er or ar but not sure what the tick above means.

Thank you.

I cannot work out the full word Sep.

Agree with GR2, se(m)p(er) = always, ever

The bit above indicates the letters m or n are omitted following the letter with the mark above.

'The Record Interpreter' compiled by Charles Trice Martin is a very useful book!

Thank you, GR2, Bookbox and Hephzibah, your knowledge and time is appreciated.

I've just found the The Record Interpreter on the Internet Archive. Thanks.
