Looking for the mother of Mary Weaver (born c. 1851)
« on: Friday 29 July 22 15:56 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I'm looking for help to find and confirm the mother of Mary Weaver. Weaver is her married name. I believe her maiden name was Barnes. Mary was born in Wolverhampton in about 1851. She ran a shop in Wolverhampton. On the 1911 census, Mary is living with her husband Edmund Weaver (his name is sometimes incorrectly transcribed as Edward on other records) and with her widowed daughter Martha Lees and grandchildren. Mary and Edmund's other children died before reaching adulthood. On the 1901 census, Mary is listed as Polly Weaver. I have found a marriage record for Edmund Weaver and Mary Barnes for 15th November 1868 in Wolverhampton. Mary's father was William Barnes. I have some conflicting information about the name of her mother and wondered if anyone might be able to help.

Many thanks,
Lily.

Well, you would have to find mary/polly before she wed.

Which pieces of information regarding mary/polls mother are in conflict?

Thank you for your reply. The problem is in part with the mistranscribing of a name which is throwing me a bit. There is a William Barnes who married a Swindinas Ford in Wolverhampton on 21st November 1841. I believe Swindinas could be Syndoniah Ford (born in Gloucestershire in 1822). On the 1851 census, there is a Swindinia Baines and William Baines (rather than Barnes) living in Wolverhampton with Swindinia having been born in the same part of Gloucestershire as Syndoniah Ford. It seems that Swindinia in Wolverhampton remarried after the death of William Barnes and on her death, she is listed as Swindinonia Ford Quick. Mary Barnes is not on the 1851 census records with the 'Baines' family. However, this may be explained by the christening of a Mary Barnes on 20th April 1851 at St. George's, Wolverhampton to a William Barnes and his wife Dinah. I'm not sure whther Dinah is Syndoniah (also known as Swindinia, Swindinas etc.) or whether I am completely barking up the wrong tree with S. Ford.

I'd certainly favour Dinah and Swindinia (or thereabout) being the same gal.

The baptism address looks to be OxfordStreet, and he's a miner. Does that tally with 1851 census?

Pauline

You know that the witnesses for the 1868 marriage are William & Swidon... Quick?

I've just double-checked. They were living in Oxford Street in 1851. Regarding the witnesses; Swindinia's second husband was also called William (William Quick who was a stonemason). I think it does all tally up. I'm new to this and I was starting to doubt things.

Do you have them in 1861?

This looks like the children with mother Mary Barns   :)
