Bear in mind that they have different datasets so it might be worth checking which one is best for you before parting with your money.

As Rosie has said, a lot depends on what kind of records you wish to access.  It may be worth comparing the two to see who offers the most in which areas you wish to research.

I think all my ancestors are from UK and Ireland only.

According to elderly relatives there is no ancestor outside these places. Maybe Ancestry is best?

I found that Ancestry was next to useless unless you went for a high-end subscription.
Also that the parish record coverage for my COUNTIES of interest was far better on FindMyPast.
Saved me a bomb of marriage certificates.

Why not try FindMyPast for a month and then Ancestry for a month before committing?
