Louisa Lamb - Birmingham
« on: Friday 05 August 22 16:24 BST (UK) »
Hi all.
I am trying to find out what happened to Louisa, she was born in the Jul quarter in 1861. I found her baptism at St. George, Birmingham. 6 Aug 1862. She was the daughter of Francis and Mary Ann Lamb. They were living in Hampton Street at that time. There is some writing in the margin of the baptism, which I am unable to read.
I am unable to find a death registration and she is not with her parents in 1871 as they were living apart.
I will be grateful for any help.                 Carol

There were 2 Louisa Lamb births in Birmingham in 1861

June qtr - illegitimate
September qtr - your Louisa mmn Gregory

There is a burial for a 6mth old Louisa Lamb 26.12.1861 Hockley All Saints which I suspect is the June qtr birth

Following on from reply 3# by ColC

In 1871 Francis was lodging in the house of widow Martha SHORE, (nee RYMER).
This is the Martha he married and her three children Harry, Ann and Francis have the surname SHORE in the 1871 census, but the surname LAMB in 1881.
I looks as if the youngest, Francis was actually the biological son of Francis Lamb. His birth rego has no mother’s maiden name recorded.

But I could not find Louisa either. Definitely NOT the one who died in Dec 1861.

I have been looking at the Gregory Family to see if Louisa was with them in 1871, no luck but what I have below for information.

John Gregory    Married    7 Jul 1833   Edgbaston, St Bartholomew   Frances Taylor

1871 – 281 Great Lister St.
John Gregory   62   Head
Frances Gregory   63   Wife
John Gregory   24   Son
Francis Lamb   7   Grandson

John and Frances had two other daughters.

Frances Gregory - baptised 15 Feb 1834 married    9 Mar 1863   Edgbaston, St Bartholomew
John Gregory & John father + Mary Ann & Francis Lamb - witnesses

1871 – Frances a Nurse at Birmingham Eye Hospital.

Jane Gregory   About 1836 baptised 5 Aug 1836   married 24 May 1876
Aston, St Peter and St Paul   - John Wilkins & John, father

1871 Jane a boarder in Aston with a John Gregory, this appears to be the husband of Frances above, she is also on this census return as Fanny. So on the census twice.

As far as Louisa is concerned maybe adopted or died no record?

There is a burial record on FindMyPast for Louisa Lamb. It’s only a transcript unfortunately

1862 Warstone Lane cemetery Birmingham (about 15 min walk from Hampton Street)

That’s all the information it gives and I can’t find a corresponding GRO record but may be something worth following up.

Pinetree

Bit of a long shot but I wonder if Louisa Lant on GRO index is worth a look age 1 DQ 1862 Birmingham
