Hello amazing people. Well, I'm stuck again. My 2GGM Elizabeth Brierley, 1849–1883 BIRTH 1 AUG 1849 • Oldham, Lancashire, England DEATH 16 NOV 1883 • ??

MARRIED Cartwright LEES in 25 Oct 1874 • St James Oldham, Manchester

I am struggling with my 3gggf and 3gggm SAMUEL BRIERLEY he was a cotton weaver/minder I believe he was

BIRTH 1822 • LOWER MOOR Oldham, Lancashire, England

DEATH 21 NOV 1876 • G5 118 Greenacres Cemetery.

Well I have several problems I can't confirm who was Samuel's wife/Elizabeth's mother.

It is either Mally Dunkerley, Marriage 16 Apr 1843 • Middleton, St Leonard, Lancashire, England

or Mally Bottomley Marriage 20 Apr 1845 • st james, Oldham, Lancashire, England

I also can't confirm Samuel's father and mother at all.

How do I get a copy of Elizabeth's birth certificate or any evidence who her mother was.

Re Samuel's parents I just don't know. His mother can be Jane/? or Mary & George / or Mary & John / Hannah & Daniel. I hear about a 1921 census. Findmypast is not free in Aus.

Believe me I've spent weeks on this and just can't crack it. Thank you for any help.

There is a GRO birth record of an Elizabeth Brierley with mmn Dunkerley:
BRIERLEY, ELIZABETH        DUNKERLEY     
GRO Reference: 1849  S Quarter in OLDHAM  Volume 20  Page 687

There is a Freebmd entry for a Samuel Brierley, with possible bride Mally Dunkerly in Ashton, 1843.

There is a Samuel Brierley with wife Mally in the 1861, with one of their (many) children being an 11 yr old Elizabeth, and they are living in Oldham.  Samuel is a cotton spinner.

I vote for Mally Dunkerley!

GRO give Elizabeth's mother's maiden name as Dunkerley - Oldham RD - September quarter 1849.

You can obtain a copy of her birth certificate from www.gro.gov.uk - pdf version is £7.50.  You will need to register (free).

On Samuel's marriage to Mally, there was no father recorded for either one of them, as in, it was left blank.

On the 1851 census, his mother is living with them: Betty Brierley, age 54, born Oldham.

On the census Bbart mentioned in 1851 there is also his brother John Brierley living there
