Illegible Inscription on Silver Cup
« on: Tuesday 09 August 22 10:53 BST (UK) »
I've inherited this silver cup from 1841 and for the life of me I can't decipher the initials on it.  I'm trying to look back in the family tree to see who would have received it.  Is anyone any good at reading fancy cursive script?

Top one looks like F E K.

Have you tried reversing the black and white or turning the photograph you have made upside down?

The first letter doesn't have a crossing stroke, so it might be T E K.

The second set could be J T G, as GR2 says, or I T G.

Thanks for the replies.  Here's another image.  I would expect the last letter of one of them to be a B but it's hard to see.  One of the ancestors alive at that time had initials of JVB.

I think, even after looking at the new photograph, that these above are more likely to be the letters.

I agree with TEK to ITG

I have used this website in the past to see how some engraved letters were formed, comparing to this alphabet if you follow each line on your engraving, you can make out the letters, even if a little stylised.
