seems a tad odd!

they were willing to give their ages and occupation but not their names - wonder why ? - could they have been part of a secretive/religious sect where names were never used ?? - or is that a bit far-fetched ?

(came across this entry by chance when looking for someone else.)

Maybe they were the start of this WOKE no gender lark, where they want to be called "it", "them", "that", etc.

Hawker of Tin Goods etc. etc. NOT Tinned fruit!!!   ;D

Hawker = Traveller!

A Dictionary of old trades, titles and occupations - Hawker = travelling salesman or pedlar.  In 1888 hawkers were legally distinguished from pedlars by the ruling that pedlars travelled on foot, hawkers by horse or beast of burden.  Also one who bred and trained hawks.

I have a female 'Hawker' somewhere in my tree, can't recall when but I'm pretty sure it's unlikely she had a Horse or other 'Beast of Burden' although, I can't prove it.
