It’s clear that you have a wealth of information about your family.

It is a pity that you don’t seem to be accepting that the death in Aldershot may be John but only the certificate will confirm that.

As bbart pointed out, the marriage notice fits with the death notice.

I've ordered that Death certificate for John Yates in Aldershot but I don't think its the right man as it would make it truly impossible for Edward to be his son as John Yates buried in Aldershot died September 1870{Edward was born 23rd November 1871 - Mary Ann would have been pregnant more than 9 months if that John was Edward's dad} and if Edward was born at full term meaning 40 weeks on 23rd November 1871 then Mary Ann White's first week of pregnancy would have been week of 20th February 1871

on the 1901 Census Cecil Percy Beil and Mary Beil are both classed as ''Step Brother and Step Sister'' but on the 1891 census and the 1881 census Cecil Percy Beil and Mary Beil are classed as Son and Daughter

someone ordered the birth record for Cecil and found Mary Ann White's name on the birth certificate but i'm pretty sure that is a mistake and was only done because someone in the National Records Office could only type out what was on the records online and considering the records can be edited by anyone on Ancestry, My Heritage and FindMyPast etc they can only give information on a birth certificate going by what the online records say

The records online are from the General Register Office https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/
1879 June quarter Blackburn
Cecil Percy Bell mmn White

Lancashire BMD records are from local  register office sources.
There are two entries - both with the same reference which show mmn as Yates and White.
Presumably the birth registration (I can’t see one on online trees) would show mother as Mary White formerly Yates (or similar wording).

Perhaps Edward meant ‘half brother’ but I think ‘step’ was used more widely then for various relationships.

I am glad you have ordered the certificate and hope that it is helpful.

Welcome to Rootschat Summer  :D

You have this information on your post:-

John Yates{I don't know when he was born but we know he was deceased in April 1871 due to the census records}.

Where did the information about John being deceased come from?  The 1871 census was taken on 2 April 1871.  If he died after that date then, in theory, he and his wife should be on the 1871 census.  Where is John most likely to have died?

What was John's occupation at the time of his marriage?

he was in the 6th foot regiment we believe when John Married Mary Ann White{he is also listed as being in the 6th foot regiment as a Staff Sergeant as his job profession despite being deceased when his son Edward John Yates married his wife Mary Jane Aykroyd in 1896}
Any idea where the 6th foot regiment was stationed at the time that John was serving in it?

Hi,

See my post at reply 41, it gives a lot of info. about the whereabouts of the 6th foot Regiment. It was in Jamaica and then back in England in the right time frame  :)
