Perhaps his name was originally John Maley, born Kingswinford/Brierley Hill circa 1877

Father James Maley was a gas retort maker in the 1891 census, and a retort builder in 1901.

Sister Selina born circa 1880/1881 was blind

Oh my goodness!  This is all amazing….and does seem to fit with the family snippets that have passed down.

Would it have been easy to just change your surname?

Thank you, I am so grateful for all the help.
