Eleanor Taylor - Francis Tate- Matilda Tate
« on: Thursday 18 August 22 11:05 BST (UK) »
Hi, I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to help me.

I’m currently trying to research my family tree and seem to have hit somewhat of a dead end. A lot of my family on my fathers fathers side were in India during the 1800s which makes it extra complicated  >:(

I have managed to get back to my 4th Great Grandmother Matilda Tate 1828 Born in Leicestershire, died in 1872 in London after having three husbands and many children (many whilst in India)

I have found a record of her Father, Francis/Frances Tate and her mother Eleanor Taylor being married in Saint Margaret, Leicester on 29th October 1826 but that’s as far as I can get. I have no DOBs for either.

Just wondering if anyone had any ideas or has come across them in their endeavours.

Many thanks.

Dale

Francis Tate was a batchelor when he married Eleanor Taylor, but Eleanor was a widow, so it might not be too easy to find her maiden name.

Marriage on 29 Oct 1826 at St Margaret; Francis signed but Eleanor made a mark. Witnesses George Posthlethwaite and Rebecca Payne (might one of those people be related to eleanor?)

Hi thanks for that info, it’s a little bit more to go on to try and crack the case of Eleanor and Frances parents.

As for Matilda,

She married Joseph Harrison in 1842 in Bengal when 14 years old, he died a year later and their child was born  a month later. Who then died 2 months later.

Remarried at age 17 in 1845 to Henry John Evans my 4th Great Grandfather in Calcutta, they had a child a year later that died 6 months later. They had a daughter together the following year in 1848, but then in 1849 Henry John Evans died.

2 years later in 1851 she married Percival Butler in Bengal and had 9 further children with him before returning to the UK in London in around 1870 and sadly died in 1872.
