A Worcestershire wedding
« on: Thursday 18 August 22 21:38 BST (UK) »
I would be grateful for help with this problem.

Numerous Ancestry trees have a marriage between Lee James and Elizabeth Knight. This is supposed to have taken place in Eckington on 19th June 1811, however I have not been able to locate this record. I have posted several messages on Ancestry asking for the original source but to no avail. Worcestershire records are available on several sites but I have not found this marriage, even on a broader search.

These FTs also have Elizabeth's baptism as taking place on 6th February 1791 in Eckington. The date is correct but the baptism was in Ashchurch, Gloucestershire.

The 1851 census has an Elizabeth James widow, pauper living in Pinvin and born in Ashchurch, which would seem to confirm a connection as Lee died in Pinvin, the previous December.

the marriage is on fhs-online.co.uk as a transcription, details you have, also Lee James is a widower, witnesses are Thomas Buckle and Samuel Harris.

familysearch.org have digitised the films of Eckington Parish Church.
Marriages 1811 come under digitised film number 4007004.
They also have the BT's.
Go to 'catalog' on the main page, and enter in Eckington.
It would be worth your while to have a look at the film yourself.
Unfortunately, you can't look at them from home even if you're signed in. The film icons are 'locked'.
This means a visit to a church of the Latter Day Saints family history library.
Note there is a 'search' icon next to the film icon, (a magnifying glass), with which you are supposed to be able to search the film. This marriage does not appear if you use this search icon. However, I have found this facility to be very unreliable on other films, and the only way to check is to actually look at the film yourself.

Thank you for the link, it is not one I have used before. I don't understand why I could not find this on Ancestry , Family  Search or Find My Past. Not sure how I will get a copy without a year's subscription!
At leas I know now the date is accurate.

If you are a member of Malvern Family History Society mfhs.org.uk, I think it's £11 per year, it includes access to the Worcs records on fhs online, however they are only transcriptions, but they are being added to all the time.

I think the genealogist has some Worcs records too, but I haven't used those so don't know the extent/coverage.

The entry on the film of the parish register is from the Banns book.
The film is quite jumbled, (I find this is often the case when you actually get to look at the filming! Most of these parish register films were done many, many years ago by the LDS), and this is all there is for the few years in which 1811 occurs. It starts again with a new ledger in 1814.
The entry doesn't give you any more information, but does give the dates the banns were read, and is confirmation of the marriage at least.
I've sent you a PM.

I now have the marriage information needed and can add this to my family tree with some confidence.

Elizabeth's entry in the banns says she was 'of this parish' i.e. Eckington, Worcestershire. Would Ashchurch, Goucestershire come under the same parish boundaries?  An alternative explanation would be that she moved thereperhaps for work.

Thank you for your help.
