Neurological Report, 1930s
« on: Tuesday 23 August 22 17:29 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Can anyone decipher the entirety of this 1930s neurological report? I can decipher some of the words but not all of them. The report was taken upon admission of a patient to an asylum. I've blocked out the name of the patient as the registers are still closed.

Could anyone more scientifically minded than myself tell me more about what the report reveals?

Any help is much appreciated, thank you.

Slightly blood stained

Alcoholic confusion - Google Wernicke Korsakoff syndrome for some info

Laboratory - no neuro??

The rest appears to be levels of the type of info you get from a blood test

I well remember Rainhill Hospital - passed it each day on my way to work back in the 1970’s
Census Information is Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk
Carlin (Ireland & Liverpool) Doughty & Wright (Liverpool) Dick & Park (Scotland & Liverpool)

Examination: Sigma (Σ) Reaction & (no clue!)

They are checking for syphilis, and as the serum result was negative, no syphilis.

Thank you bbart for your help! Do you know why they would test for syphilis in particular instead of any other diseases?

One of the end stage outcomes of syphilis is a condition  often known as general paralysis of the insane. By ruling in or out the disease they have a better idea what they might be dealing with in the mental health/neuro sphere

Thank you Mabel, that does make sense!
